9 November 2008
The Western Front, 303 East 8th Avenue
Workshop from 11am – 5pm*
* Lunch to be provided.
Performance at 4:30pm
WORKSHOP IS NOW FULL - FREE PERFORMANCE AT 4:30!
FOR WHO:
Fun for the whole family! Curious kids and adults are invited for an afternoon of sound play (note: parental supervision is required for participants under the age of 12).
WHAT TO BRING:
Come with a cheap thrift store battery powered electronic sound toy and batteries, leave with a permanently altered sound making instrument!
HOW:
Open a toy and scramble its circuits! We’ll observe the effect of direct hand contact on the circuit board, experiment with substitution of components, circuit bending and listen to the unpredictable and new signals running through the circuit.
WHY:
Circuit bending empowers people to creatively engage in sound exploration, listening and in collaborative sound creation…plus you get to open a toy and scramble its circuits!
At the end of the workshop, participants will perform with their new sound devices.
Sonic Playground is a joint initiative of Vancouver New Music, Western Front New Music and NOW Orchestra.
