Born in New York and raised in Tamil Nadu, ganavya, whose name means “one who was born to spread music,” grew up immersed in a culture of community and devotional practice. Her last album, Daughter of a Temple, featured 30 collaborators, including Esperanza Spalding and Vijay Iyer. It was named one of the Top 10 Global Albums of 2024 by The Guardian, who also called her “one to watch” with a voice that could “turn stoics into sobbing wrecks.”
